DIY Rattan-Wrapped Mirror (On-Trend 2025 Guide)
Rattan and cane are everywhere in 2025 — from furniture showrooms to Pinterest boards. They bring warmth, texture, and a natural “handcrafted” vibe that fits perfectly with boho, Scandinavian, coastal, and Japandi homes.
One of my favorite ways to incorporate this trend is by upcycling a simple mirror into a rattan-wrapped masterpiece. It’s affordable, beginner-friendly, and instantly elevates any wall.
Let’s walk through the full process.
Materials You’ll Need

Cane webbing is lightweight and easy to wrap around a round or rectangular mirror.
Materials:
-
A round or rectangular mirror
-
Cane webbing (rattan sheet) or rattan rope
-
Strong hot glue gun
-
Sharp scissors
-
Measuring tape
-
Optional: wood stain or clear sealant
Expert note:
Cane webbing is flexible when slightly damp — making it easier to shape around curves.
Step 1 — Measure Your Mirror and Cut the Cane Webbing

Accurate measurements ensure the cane sits snugly around the mirror.
Measure the circumference (or perimeter) of your mirror and cut the rattan sheet or rope slightly longer — about 1–2 cm overlap.
Blogger tip:
Wet the cane sheet lightly with a spray bottle before cutting. It becomes softer and bends easily.
Step 2 — Warm Up and Prepare the Glue Surface

Glue a small section at a time — cane dries fast and needs firm pressure.
Clean the mirror edges with a dry cloth.
Heat your glue gun until fully melted.
Work in small 5–7 cm sections to avoid the glue cooling too quickly.
Step 3 — Attach the Rattan Around the Mirror Frame

Press firmly for a seamless, professional-looking wrap.
With one hand, guide the cane along the edge; with the other, press firmly into the glue.
Continue wrapping slowly until fully around the mirror.
If using rope rattan:
-
Wrap tightly
-
Add glue every 3–4 cm
-
Adjust tension to keep rows even
Step 4 — Secure the Seam and Trim the Excess

Clean trimming makes the piece look professionally crafted.
Trim the overlapping section with sharp scissors.
Add a final line of glue inside the seam and press firmly.
Optional:
Seal the cane with a thin layer of clear matte varnish for durability and a richer tone.
Step 5 — Style Your New Rattan Mirror

Rattan mirrors naturally warm up minimalist interiors.
Rattan mirrors look gorgeous in:
-
Entryways
-
Above dressers
-
Besides floating nightstands
-
Small reading corners
-
Bathroom (avoid high humidity unless sealed)
Combine with:
-
Linen textures
-
Neutral palettes
-
Soft candles
-
Wooden trays
-
Dried flowers
It adds a warm, handcrafted charm to any room.
